Sharp Photo Mary Sharp – Church Secretary

Mary has been a member of Wallace since 1985. She has been in the church office in a secretarial position since 1989. In her free time, Mary loves spoiling the children of Wallace, studying God’s Word, reading non-fiction biographies and listening to everything from opera to salsa music.

Melanie Brockman – Children’s Ministry
Melanie Brockman served in various Children’s Ministries at Wallace as a volunteer while her four daughters were growing up. Though her degree from the University of Oklahoma qualified her to teach upper grade English, she found she preferred teaching truth from God’s Word to children.  She coordinates all activities and classes for children from birth through elementary school. Finding new ways to encourage the children to learn and participate in all aspects of church life is her on-going mission. She feels very blessed to work with so many dedicated adults who serve the children of our church.

 Erik Apland – Church Musician

Erik Apland is from Bruce, South Dakota, and completed degrees in classical piano performance from South Dakota State University and the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. He has exhibited extensive musical versatility by performing music ranging from classical to jazz as a soloist and in many ensembles.  In 1998, he joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band as one of only three presidential pianists and, in that capacity, played at the White House for dignitaries and celebrities from around the world, with performances often televised nationwide. Erik shares his music as a freelance artist in the Washington/Baltimore/Washington region, and has been blessed to be a part of Wallace Presbyterian Church since 2004.

Frank PhotoKaren Frank — Administrative Assistant

A Washington, D.C., native, Karen was born into the Wallace family, baptized at Wallace and met her husband, Don, at Wallace.  She studied Communications at the University of Maryland where she was involved in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.  She then spent 13 years in public affairs for the federal government, mostly at the U.S. Naval Academy.  Before joining the staff at Wallace, Karen taught high school Journalism.  In her spare time, Karen enjoys taking her dogs to visit the residents of a local assisted living facility, trying out new recipes on her family and friends, visiting her husband’s hometown of Hershey, Pennsylvania, reading the now old-fashioned newspaper (even taking delight in the resulting newsprint on her hands), and serving as “Maryland Mom” to the University of Maryland students who live in her home.  She is endlessly grateful for the legacy of faith passed down to her through her family and through the Wallace community.
