Children’s Ministry

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

As we make plans for the children of our church, this verse always comes to mind. We want our children from their earliest days to love to come to church. We do everything possible to provide a safe and happy atmosphere where children will learn early the blessings of being part of the family of God.

  • Over 60 carefully screened volunteers staff our early childhood ministry.
  • Nursery is provided for children newborn through age 3 during Sunday School and the worship hour. Pagers alert parents if their children need them while in our care. If parents desire, four to ten year olds may exit the worship service just prior to the sermon for Catechism class.
  • Two to Ten Year olds are taught from the First Catechism during worship.
  • Children’s ministry is an opportunity to disciple—to get children and youth ready for life as followers of Jesus Christ. Our Sunday School curriculum from Great Commission Publications for ages 2 through Grade 8 disciples children by rooting them firmly in God’s Word.
  • Sunday School Teachers serve two three-month terms per year. During the other quarters they are encouraged to attend adult Sunday School classes. Both teachers and students grow—not just in knowledge—but also in their readiness to live out their faith in God’s world.
  • Highlights of each year are Junior Camp for children entering grades 4-6 and Vacation Bible School for students age 4 through Grade 8. On Sunday evenings during the Home Group hour (5:00 – 6:00 p.m.), special classes are offered at the church for children — ages infant through Grade 6.
  • Bible Memory is part of our curriculum and we occasionally extend Bible Memory Challenges to encourage the children to learn longer passages.
  • Stepping Stones are aids to worship we encourage the children to master beginning with the Doxology at age four on through the 10 Commandments in Grade 6.
  • Special events such as Fall Festival, Trunk or Treat, Advent Adventure, and Family Fun Days occur occasionally. Our children present special music and Bible memory passages for the congregation throughout the year. From time to time, we encourage children to serve our church as well as the wider community.

Helping With Our Children
If you like children and have attended Wallace for more than six months, we would welcome you to our Children’s Ministries team.  We currently need a worship hour teacher for the Pre K/Kindergarten class during the sermon.  All materials are provided for you.  We use Great Commission Publications “Beginning Kids Quest Catechism” and also practice hymns of the month, Bible Memory Challenge, and Stepping Stone training for worship participation.
